As founder of Desktime, The Coop, & One Design Company Sam Rosen has established a reputation as a successful entrepreneur and well-respected voice in the design community. A habitual problem solver, Sam directed his creative energies towards a solution for managing coworking spaces after seeing the challenges first hand as co-owner/operator of The Coop, Chicago’s first dedicated coworking space. There wasn’t the right tool for the job, so Sam and partner Pat Griffin decided to assemble the best team and built the solution. The Coop was acquired by NextSpace, a network of nine coworking spaces across the US, as NextSpace River North in August 2013. Sam also founded One Design Company, a collective committed to high quality web design & development, interaction design and user interface design, in 2005. One Design has helped clients ranging from the family of restaurants of One-Off Hospitalities (Avec, Blackbird, Publican, and The Violet Hour) define their online presence to partnering with Groupon for projects ranging from their first iPhone applications to microsites to complex payment gateway integration. A native Chicagoan, Sam operates through a make-it-happen mindset. He likes spending time making art with his surrogate brothers at The Post Family, an art and design collaborative and gallery, taking walks with his dog Eli, and sampling delicious food from around the globe.
A serial entrepreneur with a focus on sales, finance and operations, Patrick Griffin has partnered with with Sam Rosen on three successful ventures. Their most recent, Desktime, is the result of the Patrick and Sam’s desire to meet the needs of owner/operators and to support the ever-growing coworking movement. It was while operating The Coop, Chicago’s first dedicated coworking space opened by Patrick and Sam in 2009, that they saw the opportunity and need for software to support managing and booking coworking spaces. At The Coop, Patrick oversaw the programming and expansion from a few extra desks in a design studio to a 7500 sq ft facility with more than 100 members. The Coop was acquired by NextSpace, a network of nine coworking spaces across the US, as NextSpace River North in August 2013. Their first collaboration started in 2007 as Patrick helped build One Design Company into one of Chicago’s most respected boutique interactive agencies while helping grow revenues by more than 1500% since that time. One Design offers services ranging from brand strategy and consulting to mobile app and website development and is proud to work with a diverse range of startups and household names alike from The Private Bank to Braintree, Pepper Construction to Groupon, Three Floyds Brewing to Avec, Blackbird and The Publican. Patrick, a lifelong Midwesterner and graduate of Indiana University, lives in Chicago where he applies the same meticulous approach he uses in business to the world of cooking and thoroughly sampling the local restaurant scene. Playing D-1 baseball at Furman University makes him a formidable man on the field in the DRESL (Downtown Real Estate Softball League).
